I first became acquainted with Christine Young of Christine Presents during my recent Goddess Fish Promotions Tour for The Hanged Man’s Noose. It wasn’t until I did a bit more research that I discovered she and her husband own Rogue Phoenix Press. Impressed with the company’s diverse catalogue, I connected with her for this interview. I hope you enjoy it.

Judy: Tell us about Rogue Phoenix Press.

519RlB86h8L._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_Christine: Rogue Phoenix Press published its first book in September 2008 although my husband and I began work in the spring of that year. This spring marks the eighth year we have been in business. The first book published was Healthy Homicide by C. L. Kraemer. Ms. Kraemer continues to write books for Rogue Phoenix Press and also works as an editor for the company. As of April 1, 2016 we have two hundred twenty-nine books in our catalogue. Currently ninety-three authors write for us.

Judy: Do you offer print and e-book, and do you charge any fees to the author?

Christine: Rogue Phoenix Press is an e-book publisher for which there are no fees. As an optional service we offer print on demand books for those authors who wish to have a book in print, also at no cost to the author. RPP assigns a cover artist, an editor, and a proofreader for each book at no charge. Advertising, review submissions, marketing suggestions, abs social media exposure are provided to each author for all of their published books.

RPP offers books for sale at Amazon Kindle, All Romance, Barnes and Noble Nook, Google Play, and Smashwords who also distribute to Apple, Kobo, Inktera, txtr, Baker and Taylor Blio, Library Direct, Baker-Taylor Axis360, OverDrive, Yuzu, Tolino, Gardners, Odilo and Scribd.

Judy: Why did you start a publishing company, and can you tell us a bit about your business model?

Door to HeavenChristine: Writing has always been part of my life. I published my first book, Dakota’s Bride with Kensington and Kate Duffy as my editor in 1998. I have published a total of twenty-four books and three anthologies with various publishers. With the rise in popularity of ebooks, I recognized a need for more publishing houses and a chance to build a business I could continue after retiring from teaching.

Rogue Phoenix Press is a family run business. My husband’s role is predominately maintaining the website, formatting the books, and proofreading. He also handles the royalties and taxes. One daughter is the cover art coordinator and our second daughter is in charge of the cover art images we have for sale on our website. I continue to write books which RPP publishes, I edit and I’m also in charge of all of the advertising.

Judy: What sort of books do you publish?

Christine: We publish all types of romance; sweet, erotic, historical; paranormal; sci/fi; fantasy and more. Also among our most popular books are mystery and suspense. We are looking for stories that hold the reader’s attention to the very last sentence. Stories that paint characters so well we can fall in love with the character and not want the book to end, and yet we will race to the end to see what will happen. With that said, we will consider any genre.

A Heavenly InterceptionWhen we look for books we feel are publishable, we read to see if the book is well written grammatically, if the point of view is maintained per scene and if it’s interesting. After these major editing issues are addressed, we look more closely at content and character building.

Judy: Are you currently accepting submissions?

Christine: Yes, we are. Send an email cover letter with a synopsis and the first three chapters in the body of the email to submission@roguephoenixpress.com. Please do not send anything as an attachment.
